Flying the Future: MzeroA Takes Flight in H55’s All-Electric Aircraft

From Childhood Dreams to Solar Innovation

Matthew from MzeroA sits down with André Borschberg, co-founder of H55, a company revolutionizing the future of aviation through electric propulsion systems. Inspired by legends like the Wright brothers and Charles Lindbergh, Borschberg was later drawn into aviation innovation through his work on the Solar Impulse Project – a mission to fly around the world using only renewable energy.

This vision evolved into a more practical approach for the near future: hybrid-electric aircraft capable of cutting fuel consumption by 30%. Borschberg emphasizes that fixed-wing aircraft are the starting point due to easier certification, with H55 paving the way for cleaner regional aviation solutions.

Behind the Scenes with the H55 Team

Matthew also speaks with Marcus from H55 to explore the prototype electric aircraft up close. Built on a BRM Aero Bristell airframe and powered by H55’s proprietary electric engine system, the testbed aircraft offers 1 hour and 10 minutes of flight time with an equal 1:1 charging ratio – 30 minutes of flight requires just 30 minutes to recharge.

Inside the flight deck, the plane flies like a conventional aircraft with key differences: no engine feedback, no exhaust gas temperature readings, and quieter operation. Instead of monitoring RPM’s, pilots rely on kilowatt readings and power settings, giving it a more jet-life experience in terms of flight management.

First Electric Flight Experience – Quiet, Smooth, and Impressive

The highlight of the video is Matthew’s own electric flight from Daytona to Deland Airport in Florida. With a smooth takeoff, quiet cabin, and responsive controls, the aircraft impressed with both comfort and stability. The experience exceeded expectations, especially in how “normal” the aircraft felt – except, of course, for the near silence.

Marcus points out that this aircraft is perfect for training applications in general aviation, especially given the reduction in noise pollution – a key factor in community relations near airports.

Kristen from H55 adds the reactions from flight instructors, students, and seasoned pilots alike echo the same sentiment: the electric aircraft is not only quiet but surprisingly intuitive and fun to fly. As H55 continues their U.S. cross-country tour, from Florida to California and eventually New York, more pilots will get to experience this next-generation technology first hand.
